The On Cloudflyer is a reliable daily running shoe built to support athletes at all levels with fantastic cushioning and solid stability. It has been around for several years now, during which time the brand has evolved its design in a number of ways while always staying true to those two core principles.

Everything about the Cloudflyer is geared towards stability, with a number of aspects in both the sole and the upper contributing towards this. Its dual-density midsole, which in 2024’s Cloudflyer 5 is made from Helion foam, features a softer material in the forefoot and a firmer one through the midfoot and heel. This delivers good structure to the back of the foot and a smooth transition at the front, with the shoe’s unique Speedboard design offering springiness at the toe. Underfoot, the outsole incorporates diamond-shaped grip patterns for high levels of grip, and its wide base enhances stability even further. Meanwhile, On’s instantly recognisable CloudTec cushioning absorbs the shock of heavy landings.

The Cloudflyer’s upper is crafted from premium materials and designed to be incredibly comfortable. It has changed more than the sole unit over the years, with models like 2023’s Cloudflyer 4 having a layer of mesh in the forefoot and a more substantial piece of panelling along the flanks. The Cloudflyer 5 has a similar look, but is more seamless throughout thanks to its subtle seams and all-over mesh construction, which also makes it more breathable. Its gusseted tongue is extremely plush, and more soft padding can be found around the ankle and collar.

Every version of the On Cloudflyer has included a moulded heel clip, which has been reworked on each new iteration, always helping to secure the foot. Most models have used On’s Star Lacing system for a strong, adaptable fit, but the Cloudflyer 5 includes standard lacing, which works well with the shoe’s other features to offer a snug yet flexible fit. Visually, the Cloudflyer exhibits the classic On aesthetic of elegant minimalism. This is produced by its subtle branding and stripped back outer, while the bold, eye-catching sole unit balances out the look.

All iterations of the On Cloudflyer silhouette deliver stability and comfort as standard. It has been carefully constructed to provide both of these attributes, making it great for all kinds of training, from short recovery runs to longer distances, as well as lighter everyday activities.
