Sporting legend Roger Federer began collaborating with On in 2019, designing various court-inspired sneakers and the brand’s first elite-level tennis shoe. Today, the On The Roger series incorporates high-performance sports trainers serving players at all levels and refined lifestyle silhouettes for a classy off-court look.
The collection is rooted in Federer’s unrivalled playing experience and began with a 3D scan of his feet, which were used as the basis for the The Roger Pro. As a premier tennis shoe, it incorporates cutting-edge features like a 100% carbon fibre Speedboard for exceptional energy return and a structural midfoot cage to secure the foot. Its engineered mesh upper offers outstanding breathability, with sidewall reinforcements and a rigid heel clip supporting dynamic movement alongside the confidence-inducing grip of the durable rubber outsole.
While the Pro is On’s leading competition shoe, the brand has also adapted some of its The Roger lifestyle sneakers into court-ready models to suit a range of play styles. The Clubhouse Pro is a multipurpose trainer built for durability, stability and support, while the Advantage Pro is a lightweight option optimised for agility and speed. Both feature a versatile herringbone outsole that provides multi-surface traction and works in various racquet sports, with lightweight, breathable uppers punctuated by protective panels. On’s trademark CloudTec cushioning is hidden inside the Helion midsole, enhancing comfort and impact protection, while a nylon-blend Speedboard delivers stability and responsiveness.
Every On The Roger design exhibits the refined elegance that Federer himself is famous for, especially the collection’s lifestyle silhouettes. These include the 2020 launch model, the Centre Court, with its retro stitching effects and chic golden details, the Clubhouse, which was crafted in honour of the young Federer’s rise to Grand Slam champion, and the Advantage, whose clean outer has a timeless style. Each has its own distinctive look, but all are united by performance features like a springy yet flexible Speedboard, concealed CloudTec cushioning and high-tech foam such as Zero-Gravity or Helion. Their faux leather uppers and rubber outsoles also suit everyday use, with strategically placed grip pads for quality traction and large flex grooves for freedom of movement.
Many The Roger colourways come in classy white hues for a classic sporting look. Alongside captivating tonal contrasts, the branding is elegant, whether it be the On logo or Federer’s sophisticated “R.” symbol, making them easy to style. Other players represent the series, including up-and-coming American Ben Shelton, who favours the Pro 2 model on the court and the 90s-inspired Clubhouse Mid off it. Meanwhile, actress Zendaya promoted the Clubhouse Pro by appearing alongside Federer in a humorous advert where the two enjoy a game of “Air Tennis”. There have even been compelling collaborations with footwear designer Ronnie Fieg and Japanese clothing brand BEAMS.
