During the 2010s, much of On’s footwear was aimed at runners, with innovative CloudTec cushioning offering high levels of support. Gradually, the brand began adding this technology to its lifestyle silhouette as well, and in 2023, this led to the first Cloudtilt – an everyday sneaker with the comfort of a well-cushioned running shoe.

The On Cloudtilt is constructed upon a Helion foam midsole with CloudTec Phase elements running along its entire length, representing the first time that such cushioning has been applied to On’s lifestyle category. Its cloud-like openings are oblong in shape and have been tilted to various different angles based on a precise development process called Finite Element Analysis. As a result, the cushioning has been optimised to work with the mechanical movements of the foot so that it provides the most comfort possible. In addition, it delivers excellent shock absorption and solid energy return while smoothly transferring the weight of the wearer through each stride.

Underfoot, the outsole of the Cloudtilt is split across strategic areas so as to reduce the amount of rubber needed. This greatly reduces weight without compromising on grip, while the type of rubber used is hard and durable for long-lasting traction.

The upper of the On Cloudtilt is made of recycled materials, forming a tight mesh with decent breathability that is bolstered by durable synthetic overlays in high-wear zones. The tongue and heel have a good level of padding, and the partially gusseted tongue works with the no-tie speed-lacing to hold the foot firmly in place. When combined with the upper’s sock-like fit, this last feature aids easy on-and-off, making the Cloudtilt a great on-the-go sneaker. Lastly, reflective logos have been placed across the silhouette for a final touch of practicality.

To launch the Cloudtilt, On collaborated with luxury Spanish fashion house Loewe, crafting a version that came out in October 2023. Combining their expertise, the pair created dozens of captivating colourways with elegant dual branding on the sidewalls as well as the large pull tabs added to the tongue and heel. This gave the Cloudtilt a powerful boost in the fashion community ahead of its general release in early 2024.
