Mercurial Superfly 10
Nike’s Mercurial football boot was introduced in the late 1990s, when it was worn by Brazilian superstar Ronaldo. With such an exciting player representing the shoe, it became a popular piece of sporting footwear and remains so to this day. In 2024, the brand released the latest in the series, the Mercurial Superfly 10, packing it with cutting-edge technologies to support the next generation of talented footballers.
From its paper-thin upper to its precisely crafted soleplate, the Nike Mercurial Superfly 10 has been built for speed. Three advanced fabrics have been used to create the slimmest upper on a Mercurial to date, with lightweight, durable Flyknit providing the foundation for the other two materials. One of these, known as Atomknit, is particularly strong and has been woven through the sidewalls for added support where the ball strikes the shoe most often. The other is a tacky thread called Gripknit, which has been used across large areas of the upper to allow greater ball control when dribbling at defenders or shooting at goal.
A textured micro-moulding effect has also been applied to the outer, and when combined with its thin construction, it gives excellent feel that facilitates even better control. Its flexible properties mean that the upper fits snugly around the foot, no matter the weather conditions, while the Dynamic Fit collar, which is made of the same hard-wearing material, helps soften things around the ankle and secure the foot more firmly in place.
Underfoot, the soleplate of the Mercurial Superfly 10 has been constructed in such a way that it bolsters all the effects of the upper. A Zoom Air unit lies along three-quarters of the shoe’s length, bringing comfort when allied with the cushioned insole and responsiveness when combined with the design of the studs. These have been arranged into a wave-like cascade that encourages the foot to make full use of the Zoom cushioning so that the player is supported at high speeds. The studs come in different forms, some like chevrons, others blade-shaped, to create excellent grip that allows intricate, skilful movement.
The Nike Mercurial has always been built with fast-paced, attacking players in mind, and, as such, it has been worn by some of the world’s greatest footballers. A few months after it was released in 2024, exciting French forward Kylian Mbappé collaborated with the brand on a special Light Laser Orange colourway whose vibrant tones, exaggerated swoosh and bold Air heel lettering made it a memorable design. The last two of these elements appear on most Superfly 10 models, including the lively colourway released as part of the Electric Pack. This eye-catching collection was made for the 2024 Olympic Games and contained a host of the brand’s top sporting models that would be used during the competition.
The Nike Mercurial Superfly 10 has the ideal blend of advanced technologies and stunning aesthetics for players to stand out while showing off their incredible skills. With its speed-focused design and enhanced control-giving features, it is a great option for anyone looking to take their game to the next level.
