SB Ishod skate shoes

Ishod Wair joined Nike SB in 2016 and had an immediate impact on the skateboarding sub-label. In 2022, having already influenced multiple versions of classic SB silhouettes, he finally received his first Nike signature shoe, the innovative SB Ishod.

For the first Nike SB Ishod was inspired by iconic 90s basketball shoes, with a durable suede and leather upper that nods to classic court shoes like the Air Jordan series and the Air Darwin. Featuring a no-sew ollie patch and breathable mesh sidewall panels protected behind a flexible rubberised shroud, it also has a hard-wearing layered eyestay as part of a traditional lacing system that incorporates internal straps connected to the central eyelets for outstanding lockdown. A cushy tongue and collar provide comfort, a plastic clip stabilises the heel and forefoot perforations add further ventilation. Underfoot, the drop-in React midsole enhances the comfort of the hybrid vulcanised cupsole, which delivers hard-wearing support alongside flexibility and boardfeel to ensure an all-round top-level skating experience. Meanwhile, the skate-specific herringbone outsole grips tightly to the board for reliable control. Embroidered branding effects bring a refined touch, and wavy design lines punctuate the design to reflect the organic flow of Wair’s skating style.

Two years after the release of the SB Ishod, Nike launched its follow-up, the Air Max Ishod. Its fashion-forward design retains the skating functionality of the original while introducing both performance and style upgrades. Its mid-top construction better supports the ankle, its large internalised eyelets are more protected and its internal midfoot bands are more extensive for improved lockdown. Double-stitched suede overlays increase durability where the sole meets the upper, and the heel pull has been enlarged for more convenient on and off. In line with Wair’s desire for a “skateable Air Max”, a visible Air Max unit has been embedded into the drop-in foam midsole to provide high-quality shock absorption, comfort and boardfeel as well as a classic look. Visually, it evolves the original SB Ishod with debossed and embroidered “Ishod Wair” lettering along the eyestay as well as undulating overlays that reference heritage models like the Air Max 95 and 1994’s Air Flare tennis shoe.

The Nike SB Ishod series has set the standard for high-impact skating protection, solid durability and top-quality boardfeel. As well as incorporating unique skating innovations, it delivers on looks, with the versatility to be worn as a casual shoe thanks to its classy throwback aesthetic.
