This retro-inspired Shox NZ is coated in a dusky black hue that covers everything from the protective toe cap to the sturdy heel panel. Here, a circular Shox logo can be found, its glossy rubberised surface distinguishing it from the surrounding leather, with another discernible on the tongue. Fine embroidery delineates Swooshes on the lateral sidewall and forefoot, while a third is subtly etched into the rubber toe. Compelling in its material depth, the upper features a smooth tongue, lightly pebbled forefoot and coarse toe cap. Fuzzy fabric delivers a softer touch through the midfoot and inner lining, while polished plastic forms the springy Shox columns. Internally, the white insole provides a contrastive background for one last Swoosh in black, thus completing this bold design.
The Nike Shox franchise is one of Nike’s most unique creations. Based around a distinctive mechanical cushioning system which was designed to harness the concept of energy return and took over a decade to develop, Shox shoes were originally crafted for sports like running and basketball. However, since making a remarkable comeback in the 2020s, it has become a popular lifestyle range known for its comfort and stability as well as its attention-grabbing midsole columns and iconic retro styles.
Shox: Hollow tubes made of a special type of polyurethane foam and set between two stiff TPU moderator plates. This combination offers three outstanding properties: strong shock absorption as the columns compress under the weight of the foot, bouncy energy return as the flexible material springs back to its original shape, and stability from the specialised design of the plates above and below.
