A suite of complementary greens play out across this Vomero 18 GORE-TEX edition, filling it with striking contrasts. Moving from top to bottom, a bright teal known as Cannon gives way to a deep shade of Seaweed. Barely Volt Swooshes create a stylishly subdued effect alongside a host of other delicate accents, while a more vibrant Volt green decorates the midsole. Starting towards the heel, this bright hue fades gradually forwards to a deep, captivating purple-blue which also appears on the geometric grip patterns of the Storm-Tread outsole. The Seaweed-coloured foam surrounding it delivers yet more depth, with luminous reflective highlights showing up across the lacing and heel in a stunning conclusion to this rugged silhouette.
Since its 2006 release, the Nike Vomero has been a key silhouette in the brand’s running collection. Always offering luxurious cushioning and elite-level comfort, it became one of three core franchises to be included in Nike’s contemporary road-running lineup. Its specialism is maximum cushioning, meaning that it provides plush comfort for steady, long-distance runs and recovery days.
ZoomX foam: Soft, lightweight and energy-returning foam offers excellent shock absorption and plush comfort. It has been tuned for daily training, with a more durable composition than that used on Nike’s racing shoes.
ReactX foam: Highly responsive foam enhances energy return while also being firm enough to ensure durability and stability. Manufactured using energy efficient methods, its carbon footprint is 43% lower than that of other midsole foams.
GORE-TEX: Waterproof yet breathable fabric provides protection against the elements for those running in wintery conditions.
A waterproof GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane has been seamlessly fused onto the upper, ensuring breathable comfort and keeping the foot warm and dry without compromising on fit or feel.
Technical mesh adds durability as it wraps the lower half of the upper. It is secured by a stitchless ribbon of reflective material, which is joined by other reflective elements to offer improved visibility in low-light conditions.
Lightweight, versatile materials give a soft, flexible feel inside the shoe.
Generous padding on the tongue, heel and foam collar contribute to all-round comfort, delivering a snug, secure fit.
Sturdy heel counter with integrated pull loop stabilises the foot and allows for easy on and off.
Fused eyestays with minimal stitching form broad, hard-wearing eyelets that provide firm lockdown. The tongue patch doubles as an extra lace loop at the top, helping to make the laces even more secure.
Reinforced plastic eyelets at the top make it easy to secure the laces and achieve a more personalised fit.
Semi-gusseted tongue holds the foot firmly in place, thus improving overall containment.
Tapered toe box suits narrower feet.
Dual-density setup incorporates two thick layers of foam, with ZoomX over the top of ReactX. This delivers a combination of attributes, including shock absorption, energy return and stability.
Max-cushioned stack of foam reaches 36mm in forefoot and 46mm in heel, with a 10mm heel-to-toe drop reflecting a comfort-driven design that protects the legs and reduces fatigue over long miles of running.
Subtly raised sidewalls help improve stability by guiding the foot through each step.
Bevelled heel favours heel strikers.
Moderate rocker geometry through forefoot encourages a gentle forward motion that makes for smooth transitions.
Nike Storm-Tread outsole covers high-impact areas on the forefoot and the edge of the heel with a special rubber compound tuned to produce excellent grip in wet weather.
Its distinctive tread pattern is inspired by winter tyres, with multidirectional, triangular lugs etched with specially designed micro-grooves that direct surface water away from the sole, thus giving a more solid footing on wet roads.
Large depression through the midfoot reduces weight.
Relatively thick rubber adds durability for long-term use.
Wide base improves overall stability.
Flex zones across the forefoot allow natural movement.
Plush, comfortable insole can be removed for those requiring custom orthotics.
