Nike Zoom Vomero Roam
"Flax"
HQ2181-200
Initially designed as a long-distance running shoe in 2011, the Vomero 5 made a grand return in 2018 when Samuel Ross chose it for a unique collaboration with his fashion brand, A-COLD-WALL*. This precipitated a powerful revival in 2022 which has seen the silhouette rise to prominence, becoming a popular choice for both casual and sporting exploits.
Zoom Air: Two pockets of pressurised air with tensile fibres have been placed in the midsole to provide responsive support and effective shock absorption.
Leather: High-quality synthetic panelling brings durability.
Mesh: Mesh underlayer adds both flexibility and breathability.
Rubber: Rubber overlays protect the upper while also bringing textural variation.
Fine mesh forms the base layer of the upper for flexibility and breathability.
Broad mesh placed atop the base layer on the heel, the vamp and the lower part of the tongue adds more support and an intriguing aesthetic.
TPU heel counter delivers stability and support around the back of the foot, while triangular openings in its sides allow air to flow through.
Durable overlays made of synthetic leather form a frame over the forefoot and an additional panel on the toe, allowing the front of the foot more freedom of movement.
Synthetic leather eyestay and heel overlay give the shoe a richly layered appearance.
More overlays curve up either side of the midfoot, providing added depth to the upper, and each one contains a single eyelet in its uppermost edge.
Strips of reflective material decorate the overlays on the toe, heel and midfoot to help the wearer show up in low-light situations.
Malleable plastic caging covers each side of the midfoot, bringing structural stability without compromising on flexibility.
Sturdy laces pass through the usual eyelets and are further secured by loops of material emerging from the bottom of the eyestay and the midfoot.
Another strip of textile with a reflective line down the middle moves up the centre of the tongue, providing more loops to hold the laces in place.
The top of the tongue is made of a fine mesh with a woven label sewn into it that displays Nike and Vomero 5 text.
A swoosh has been printed into the centre of the heel.
Sidewall swooshes rest atop the midfoot structure on each flank.
Cushlon foam offers spongy comfort from heel to toe.
Two Zoom Air units, one in the forefoot and another in the heel, provide lightweight comfort, responsiveness and shock absorption without adding extra bulk.
Cushlon and Nike Zoom text debossed into the foam on the lateral side show off the comfort-giving materials used.
Small, TPU shank on the underside of the midsole bolsters support below the arch of the foot without adding unnecessary weight.
Duralon rubber tread indicated by the embossed text below the forefoot is both durable and grippy, offering reliability during prolonged use.
Waffle grip pads reference the shoe’s running heritage and provide high-quality grip.
Additional BRS 1000 rubber offers extra protection and abrasion resistance to high-wear areas, and its presence is highlighted by text debossed into the heel.
Flex grooves through the forefoot allow more natural flexion of the foot.
Decoupled heel has been split into two different sections of padding with additional pads on the lateral side of the midfoot, helping to keep the foot in the correct place and facilitating correct movement by creating a fluid transition from heel to toe.
Plush mesh inner lining gives both breathability and softness around the foot.
Supportive insole has been decorated with a special Bowerman Series emblem featuring a black-and-white picture of Nike’s co-founder within a circular frame.
