Adizero Aruku
The adidas Adizero range has been at the forefront of technology for over two decades, so when the brand revealed the Adizero Aruku, it was expected to be a cutting-edge running shoe. However, it was actually a lifestyle sneaker inspired by the line’s deep sporting heritage.
The upper of the adidas Adizero Aruku is based upon that of the early-2000s Adizero PR running shoe. It features a vintage blend of textile mesh and synthetic overlays which have been carefully placed to maximise breathability. Meanwhile, a stabilising heel counter protects the back of the foot, and a thin yet well-padded synthetic suede tongue eliminates lace pressure. The textile interior offers gentle comfort around the foot, and the toe is reinforced with a rubber cap extending up from the outsole for all-round support.
The defining feature of the Adizero Aruku is its maxed-out sole unit. Made from nitrogen-infused Swirlfoam in an exaggerated rocker shape, it is at once bold and supportive, delivering a powerful combination of comfort and responsiveness that energises the wearer and reduces leg fatigue. This substantial midsole has also been designed to provide softness and shock absorption in key areas, and its unique curvature encourages flowing movement, thus allowing the wearer to glide effortlessly through each step for an energetic, joyful walking experience. The Aruku’s rubber outsole adds to this captivating effect through eccentrically jagged tread patterns that produce excellent traction.
With its stacked sole unit and energising, retro-inspired upper, the adidas Adizero Aruku makes a compelling fashion statement. Its sleek, striking webbed overlay cleverly integrates the iconic 3-Stripes logo to accompany the minimal branding accents on the heel, outsole and tongue. Underfoot, the unmissable Swirlfoam midsole takes centre stage with its epic size and the lightly marbled effect shimmering across its surface.
The Adizero Aruku was launched in early summer 2024 via a stylish release campaign featuring talented Portuguese footballer Rafael Leão and fashionable London DJ Jordss, both of whom live on-the-go lifestyles. American rapper Gunna then wore the vibrant ‘White Pure Ruby’ colourway during his set at London’s Wireless Festival in July 2024, bringing the Aruku even more renown.
The word “aruku” means “walk” in Japanese, highlighting the Adizero Aruku’s walking-friendly design, which was honoured by creative label Concepts with the collaborative ‘Walk, Don’t Run’ colourway in autumn 2024. Alongside this, adidas has partnered with Japanese streetwear label atmos on a stylish black and metallic silver edition that leans into the shoe’s fashion-forward aesthetic.
Innovative in both its technology and its appearance, the adidas Adizero Aruku is a comfort-focused sneaker with an unforgettable look that blends sporting heritage with futuristic vibes. Its bold design represents a stride forward in comfort and style, supporting all-day walking and allowing the wearer to remain active for longer while savouring every step along the way.
