Basketball star Caitlin Clark became a Nike athlete shortly after being chosen as 1st pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 draft. She made an instant impact on the WNBA in a record-breaking debut season, winning Rookie of the Year, leading the league in assists and making the All-Star team. Behind the scenes, Nike’s designers studied Clark’s elite play style to create her first signature shoe, the Nike Caitlin 1.

Nike created a brand new Opticast upper for the Caitlin 1. It consists of a lightweight, flexible textile mesh covered in cast polyurethane nodes of differing sizes that provide durability and reduce drag for better movement. Combined with the traditional lacing system, semi-gusseted tongue and double-padded heel, this cutting-edge design effectively contains the foot. Comfort is enhanced by the soft, stretchy inner fabric and the generous cushioning on the breathable mesh tongue, while foam ridges deliver lateral support. The accommodating forefoot is double-lasted to ensure durability, and the dual-thickness internal heel counter stabilises the foot.

The Nike Caitlin 1 features a lightweight, stable Cushlon foam midsole that offers impact protection and responsiveness. A large, grooved, top-loaded Zoom Air Turbo unit moulds to the curves of the forefoot, producing powerful propulsion so that the wearer can find space quickly on court. Supporting the midfoot is a firm shank that provides arch support and torsional rigidity for greater stability during cuts and pivots. Combined with its low-drop design, this gives excellent control, as does the fanning herringbone tread pattern of its rubber outsole. Its deep grooves offer multidirectional grip, with multiple cutouts reducing weight and a lateral forefoot outrigger adding extra stability.

Storytelling details give the Caitlin 1 a distinctive aesthetic. The Opicast nodes are shaped like the letter C on one side and the number 2 on the other, referencing Clark’s initials, jersey number and the different sides of her personality. Her signature adorns the heel, her CC logo accents the tongue and midfoot, and her jersey number can be found on the tongue loop. The silhouette’s stylishly rippling, wave-like upper nods to the three-point line and Clark’s ability to score from beyond its arc, while the stacked, bevelled Swooshes on the lateral ankle echo her initials. Inspiring phrases are etched into the sole, with the words “This was never a long shot” celebrating her all-time college scoring record and “Shoot more threes” and “From anywhere” an homage to her shooter mentality. Lastly, the sockliner is inspired by the hours spent practising ranged shots on her childhood driveway.

Caitlin Clark debuted her signature basketball shoe on June 18th, 2026, showcasing her speedy step-backs, controlled footwork and exceptional long-range accuracy. It launched globally in October, with the Caitlin Blue and Warning Code colourways featuring vibrant blue and yellow tones that reference Clark’s ability to shoot from anywhere and her potent scoring threat.
