Samba ADV

Throughout its history, the iconic adidas Samba has been adopted by a number of subcultures. One of these is the skateboarding community, who enjoyed the board-feel provided by its low-profile build. In 2017, the brand honoured its skating connection with the Samba ADV – an updated sneaker designed specifically for the rigours of the sport. Then, following a 2021 collaboration with Belgian skater Maité Steendhoudt, the ADV was reimagined with a more minimal look and a similarly skating-focused design.

The adidas Samba ADV retains the classic streetwear style of the original model but everything has been padded out so that the shoe can withstand the scrapes and bumps that come with skateboarding. It is built upon a reliable rubber cupsole with the familiar blend of grippy tread patterns and a thin layer of foam cushioning that facilitates excellent control for performing tricks.

High-quality materials have been used across the upper, from the leather underlayer to the plush suede overlay on the toe. All of these elements have been reinforced to make them thicker and more hard-wearing than the standard model, thus providing skaters with the durability and strength they need. Internally, the elasticated straps joined to the side of the tongue hold the foot securely in place so that there is no risk of slippage or ankle rolling while on the board. On top of this, the moulded sockliner delivers a snug fit that enhances this effect and produces maximum comfort.

Since the release of Steenhoudt’s all-suede version in 2021, the brand has released a host of stylish adidas Samba ADV colourways. Renowned skaters Gino Iannucci and Kader Sylla have also been involved in their own collaborations, each bringing a unique aesthetic to the silhouette. Thanks to its sturdy construction and classy look, Iannucci, Sylla and others can ride in confidence and style while celebrating the historical connection between skating culture and the iconic Samba.
