The eye-catching colour scheme on this Jordan 4 Retro SE is based on a classic Air Max 95 design known as Neon. In homage to the fan-favourite sneaker, this AJ4 has been given the same nickname for its use of similarly vivid lime green highlights. These can be found on the outsole in the form of two Volt-coloured sections that stand out strongly from the black rubber that covers the rest of its surface. One of them is in the forefoot, its herringbone grip lines enhancing the work already done by the multidirectional tread patterns seen across the rest of the outsole, while the other is under the midfoot. This piece is smooth and has a black Jumpman leaping through its centre. The black parts of the outsole reach up to merge into the midsole on the toe and lateral flank, while the rest of the feature comes in a marginally lighter shade called Anthracite. In its heel, there is a visible Air unit which reveals more hints of Volt inside the shoe while also adding spongy comfort underfoot.

On the upper, a stylish colour gradient of dapper greys has been created by the use of ever-lightening shades on each layer of fine suede, fading from Anthracite to Cool Grey to Wolf Grey. The forefoot overlay is the darkest, with its almost black tone, the central layer is a lighter grey and the quarter panel and collar are lighter still. The structural TPU triangles that support the sidewalls are also a light shade of grey, but the moulded eyelets attached to them present some flashier accents as they are decorated in Volt tones. This is true for the ones at the bottom of the eyestay as well, while the rope-style laces passing through them feature a white and dark grey pattern. Around the laces, on the sides and bottom of the quarter panel, are three areas of off-white mesh netting that allow breathability through the darker material set behind them.

The soft, velvety fabric of the tongue and inner lining continues the colour gradient of the upper as it is coated in an even lighter hue than the collar. In fact, its colouration is almost white, which means that the Volt insole shines out brightly beside it. Anthracite Nike Air branding has been printed onto the sockliner, facing in a different direction on each shoe to create a mismatched effect. More Nike Air text in the same dark hue appears on the heel panel, which itself is a dusky grey. It also has a subtle sheen to it, bringing further lustre to the design. Elsewhere, two patches have been sewn into the tongue. On its underside is an Air Jordan label, while its topside features a black square label with a band of Volt forming the trimming. Its centre is adorned with dichromatic Jumpman and Flight text, half of which is white, the other half exhibiting a surge of neon green Volt in a final flourish of colour.
