Nike Air Rift Lace trainers "Healing Orange"

The Nike Air Rift was initially launched in 1996 as a running shoe designed to replicate the feeling of being barefoot. Inspired by the topography of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley and the country’s outstanding distance runners, the Rift was known for its unconventional aesthetic and its focus on natural motion, both of which made it a compelling silhouette. Today, it is no longer worn as a sports shoe but rather an easy-going sandal-sneaker hybrid renowned for its everyday comfort and distinctive style.

Nike Air: Encapsulated Air cushioning concealed within the midsole provides soft, bouncy comfort and shock absorption.

Split-toe design isolates the big toe, improving articulation and encouraging natural motion of the foot. It also moves the wearer closer to a barefoot state so that the foot can spread out and form a more stable base.

Hook and loop straps over the top of the midfoot and around the heel provide excellent lockdown. Fully adjustable, they allow the wearer to achieve a comfortable, personalised fit.

Strap closure system also offers quick, easy access for a relaxed, seamless on and off experience.

Large cutout sections aerate the foot, somewhat like a sandal, keeping it cool and fresh.

Flexible, lightweight materials are used to deliver comfort without inhibiting movement. This makes the Rift a versatile shoe, with examples including breathable mesh, stretchy neoprene and even full-grain leather.

Reinforced, double-stitched seams add durability.

Plush, lightweight Phylon foam softens each step while providing good shock absorption.

Nike Air cushioning in the heel gives classic comfort.

Midsole is flexible and moves naturally with the foot, offering everyday wearability.

Sturdy rubber outsole is hard-wearing for all-day use. 

Rugged tread pattern inspired by the mountainous terrain of the Great Rift Valley features large, topographical grip pads through the mid and rearfoot alongside geometric, rock-shaped lugs across the forefoot for excellent traction.

Two deep flex grooves span the forefoot, improving flexion and contributing further to the Rift’s ‘natural motion’ feel.

Cutouts in the rubber of the midfoot and heel keep weight down.

Soft, non-removable sockliner adds to comfort, allowing the Rift to be worn without socks, like a summer sandal.
