Ja 2
In 2023, Nike athlete Ja Morant released his first signature basketball shoe. Designed to complement his electrifying playing style, it became a popular silhouette both on and off the court. Just one year later, he collaborated with the brand again to create an even more comfortable and supportive follow-up: the Nike Ja 2.
As a fast, springy player, Ja Morant needs well-cushioned footwear, and the Ja 2 delivers just that. Its Cushlon foam midsole is soft and bouncy, with a responsive Zoom Air unit in the forefoot for a propulsive sensation off the floor. A reengineered tread pattern based on the large tractor tyres Morant used to train with ensures outstanding multidirectional traction and stability during intense periods of play. All of this has been achieved using as little material as possible to reduce the overall weight.
The upper of the Nike Ja 2 features breathable ballistic mesh through the forefoot, a flexible textile weave along the medial flank and rows of pillowy overlays radiating around the lateral swoosh. This design moulds to the foot, enhancing lockdown and allowing the wearer to play with confidence. Extra puffy cushioning on the medial collar helps protect the ankle, while the sidewall guardrails stabilise the foot during rapid lateral movement, thus giving the player excellent control.
Stylistically, the Ja 2 builds on the storytelling of its predecessor. It features Morant’s logo on the tongue, a swoosh debossed across the outsole and various design details that celebrate key moments and people in his life. The launch colourway, Purple Sky, debuted in the autumn of 2024, showcasing richly toned overlays and night-sky graphics that evoke the same feelings of awe as his mesmerising style of play. Other editions reference his years at Murray State University, childhood memories such as spending time on his grandmother’s porch, and his family members, with some telling stories through the use of distinctive textures like claw marks, which represent his NBA team, the Memphis Grizzlies.
Designed for comfort, control and bounce, the Nike Ja 2 offers a striking look that reflects Morant’s connection to basketball and youth culture. Inspired by players at all levels, this standout silhouette delivers both performance on the court and style on the street.
