Nike’s Air Max technology has been around for years, but in 2024, the brand took a great step forwards in innovation with a new form of cushioning called Dynamic Air. Less than one year later, Nike took further strides with its first sneaker to contain a full-length version of this groundbreaking technology: the Air Max Dn8.

The Nike Air Max Dn8 expresses concepts of fluidity and motion throughout all parts of its design, beginning with its striking upper. Sculpted using premium mesh materials that are lightweight, flexible and durable, it features broad stripes down each side that expose an underlayer of open-cell mesh for high levels of breathability. At the heel, a sturdy plastic clip provides added structural integrity that serves to hold the foot securely in place through even the most vigorous movements.

The unique Dynamic Air unit of the Air Max Dn8 features a low-profile design with eight tubes that connect directly to the ground for enhanced compression and the kind of responsiveness normally experienced in a high-performance athletic shoe. Following on from the first Dynamic Air sneaker, the Dn8 has doubled the number of Air chambers, with separate units in the forefoot and heel each containing two chambers of dual cylinders set to different pressures. The tubes closest to the heel and forefoot are tuned to 15psi, while those in the midfoot are much softer at just 5psi. Air flows between each pair of tubes, reacting to the specific step of the wearer to provide a personalised and seamless transition from heel to toe.

While the powerful Dynamic Air system encourages forward motion by creating a smooth, flowing sensation, the rest of the midsole is filled with soft foam to support the foot. Directly beneath the Air tubes is a rubber outsole combining flex grooves with a reliable tread for freedom of movement and traction. Circular pads punctuate each cylinder and translucent rubber runs through the centre of the forefoot and heel, making the Air technology visible from underneath as well as through the porthole windows along the sides of the midsole.

Visually, the Air Max Dn8 evokes a powerful sense of energy and dynamism. The lively stripes on the upper continue into the sole unit, creating a compelling synergy between the two, while a sleek Swoosh appears on the lateral ankle. Bold Air Max branding highlights the tongue, with a heritage-inspired Air Max Dn logo on the heel and insole. The Dn Air logo that debuted on the shoe’s predecessor returns here on the outsole and one of the midsole windows. At the beginning of 2025, NBA star Victor Wembanyama was pictured in a vibrant ‘Hyper Pink’ Dn8 which in February became the silhouette’s launch colourway.
