Ja 4 basketball shoes
Ja Morant’s signature series is built upon edgy aesthetics and high-performance Nike innovations designed to support his fast, athletic play style. While this ethos continued with the release of the Nike Ja 4 in 2026, its updated construction took the franchise in a bold new direction, both visually and technologically.
The Ja 4 has a one-piece upper with a haptic, diamond-patterned texture that is durable and protective. Designed for strength, it fits snugly around the foot, with a lacing system whose broad, cuffed eyelets are concealed inside the asymmetrical eyestay for secure lockdown and longevity. Only the uppermost eyelets are revealed, but these have extra reinforcement to prevent tearing. Mesh adds a touch of ventilation over the tongue, and soft padding brings comfort to the heel, collar and instep.
Supporting the Nike Ja 4 is a full-length Cushlon 3.0 midsole that offers lightweight shock-absorption and responsiveness for an energetic yet well-cushioned underfoot experience. These properties are enhanced by the premium SPRPWR sockliner, which is made of high-rebound, supercritical foam. The innovative TPU Ja-Frame wraps the lateral midfoot, outsole and medial heel, delivering stability during rapid lateral cuts and other dynamic on-court plays. Morant’s angular ‘Ja’ logo inspired its tread pattern, whose precise, geometric lines facilitate controlled, multidirectional movement. Sleek flow foam ridges bolster durability along the flanks, while the sole’s overall streamlined, low-profile design ensures reliable court feel.
Like its predecessors, the Ja 4 seamlessly blends elite level functionality with striking aesthetics. Its textured upper is punctuated by sharp, angular lines that continue the rebellious theme of his signature series, while his name appears subtly through the combination of reversed, vertical Swooshes and the A-shape of the stabilising midfoot frame. Storytelling details can be found across the silhouette, from Morant’s personal logo and inspirational quotes to his Memphis Grizzlies jersey number, which is repeated on the underside of the Ja-Frame in a nod to his elite grassroots basketball program, Twelve Time.
Nike and Ja have always shown a desire to help up-and-coming basketball players, so it is fitting that he debuted the Ja 4 himself at the brand’s Elite Youth Basketball League in Las Vegas. The event was held in July 2026, with Morant talking directly to young hoopers about collaborating on its design. He also took to social media to officially announce the five initial colourways ahead of the launch of the ‘Nightmare’ edition on August 13th. Featuring a rich navy blue and electrifying green gradient upper with a vibrant Ja-Frame and Swoosh logos, it is the perfect visual representation of Morant’s powerful on-court influence and scoring threat.
Incorporating innovative features and powerful aesthetics, the Nike Ja 4 is a stunning basketball shoe designed to stabilise and accentuate explosive plays, lateral cuts and quick, confident movement for elite-level performance across the court.
