The Nike Air Rift was launched in 1996 as a running shoe designed to replicate the feeling of being barefoot. Inspired by the topography of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley and the country’s outstanding distance runners, the Rift was known for its unconventional aesthetic and its focus on natural motion, both of which made it a compelling silhouette.
