Nike first released the Air Superfly in 2000 as an ultra-lightweight running shoe built for speed. More than two decades later, the brand reintroduced it as a sporty women’s lifestyle silhouette for a new generation.

The Nike Air Superfly retains the heritage aesthetic of the original, with a sleek, low-profile build made possible by its special reverse-seam design. This gives it a sort of ‘inside-out’ look, removing the need for a sock liner, making it incredibly lightweight and offering a snug, seamless fit. Its leather and synthetic suede upper contains multiple ventilation holes that add breathability across the foot while also generating stylish athleisure vibes.

A minimalist design ethos defines the Air Superfly as its stripped back outer features delicate branding effects. An embroidered Swoosh adorns the lateral heel with another lightly debossed into the midsole at the back, with one final logo attached directly to the peak of the perforated tongue above the word “AIR” for a gracefully refined look.

The Air Superfly’s midsole is filled with soft, supportive Cushlon foam, with further cushioning provided by the pillow of Nike Air hidden inside. At the heel, it curves up slightly to protect the back of the foot, while underfoot, the dynamic rubber outsole is covered in a variety of striking tread lines for excellent grip. Colourful nodes decorate its forefoot, visually imitating the placement of the track spikes that were used on elite running shoes at the time the original was released.

Gold-medal-winning Olympian Sha’Carri Richardson was recruited to showcase the Nike Air Superfly towards the end of 2024. She was pictured wearing the Metallic Silver colourway, which perfectly embodies the silhouette’s sleek elegance and classy style, before taking to social media to flaunt the shoe’s distinctive racing-flat-inspired look.

The Nike Air Superfly officially made its return at the beginning of 2025 in a bold demonstration of the brand’s running shoe heritage. Designed to provide modern comfort and versatile wearability with an aesthetic rooted in sporting history, the Air Superfly is a unique expression of athletic nostalgia and contemporary fashion.
